Abstract

The The credit for a monumental juristic achievement such as Fatawa-e-Haqaniyyah rightfully belongs to a great religious, scholarly, and spiritual institution that has rendered invaluable services to the disciplines of Islamic jurisprudence, fatwa writing, and religious guidance in the Indian subcontinent. Fatawa-e-Haqaniyyah is not merely a compilation of legal verdicts; rather, it represents the continuity of the subcontinent’s juristic and scholarly tradition, reflects the refined academic temperament of the elders of Deoband, and stands as a mirror of the scholarly grandeur of Darul Uloom Haqqania, Akora Khattak. An introduction to this juristic encyclopedia is inseparably linked with the history of the religious and scholarly institution whose foundation was laid in 1947 by Shaykh ‘Abdul Haqq Haqqan(رحمہ اللہ) This institution is a true manifestation of its founder’s sincerity, piety, intellectual insight, and juristic mastery. Since its establishment, Darul Uloom Haqqania has attained a distinguished position in the scholarly and juristic landscape of the subcontinent that requires no formal introduction. From its halls emerged men of distinction who left indelible marks in the fields of teaching and instruction, iftāʾ (fatwa issuance), authorship and compilation, and the moral and spiritual reform of the Ummah.Among these distinguished personalities are the eminent students and scholarly successors of Hazrat Mawlana ‘Abdul Haqq (رحمہ اللہ), most notably Mufti Mahmood (رحمہ اللہ), followed by such towering figures as Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai (رحمہ اللہ), Mufti Muhammad Shafi‘ (رحمہ اللہ), and Mufti Muhammad Yusuf Banuri (رحمہ اللہ). These luminaries, drawing upon the principles of Hanafi jurisprudence, transformed the practice of fatwa writing into a structured, systematic, and highly developed scholarly discipline. Special attention has also been given in Fatawa-e-Haqaniyyah to juristic issues that have emerged in the modern era. This collection includes contemporary fatwas issued by the Dar al-Ifta of Jamia Darul Uloom Haqqania, many of which had previously been published in the monthly journal Al-Haqq. These modern legal verdicts have been systematically incorporated into the relevant chapters in accordance with their thematic relevance, so as to preserve the encyclopedic nature of the work and ensure its harmony with contemporary needs. This scholarly methodology serves as clear evidence that Fatawa-e-Haqaniyyah is not merely a reflection of traditional juristic scholarship, but also an effective guide for addressing modern challenges through sound intellectual and Shar‘i solutions. In this way, it provides the reader with practical and relevant juristic guidance that corresponds to the demands and complexities of the present age.
