THE SOCIAL STATUS AND ROLE OF WOMEN DURING THE PROPHETIC ERA: A SPECIALIZED STUDY OF THE LIFE OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH)
Abstract
This study explores the social status and role of women during the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) era, focusing on the transformative teachings and practices of Islam. Before Islam, women faced severe oppression, including denial of basic rights, social dignity, and economic independence. With the advent of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) uplifted their status by granting them rights in education, inheritance, marriage, and social participation. Women became active contributors to society, exemplified by figures like Hazrat Khadijah (RA) in commerce, Hazrat Aisha (RA) in knowledge, and Hazrat Umm Salama (RA) in social and political affairs. The study further examines the roles of female companions in various spheres of life, emphasizing how Islamic teachings empowered them and established a framework for gender justice, dignity, and equality. This research underscores the Prophet’s (PBUH) efforts in elevating women’s status, setting a timeless precedent for human rights and social justice.
