Abstract

At the time of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) mission, humanity in general and Arab society in particular was consumed by conflicts of greed, envy, and tribal prejudice. In this context, he was sent as the embodiment of compassion and altruism, introducing Islamic brotherhood as a divine blessing. Through practical steps, such as the Mu’ākhāt al-Madīnah (Brotherhood of Madinah), he united the Companions and transformed hostility into love and solidarity. This Prophetic model established a bond so enduring that Muslims, regardless of geography, remained connected through fraternity. This paper explores the Prophetic conception of Islamic brotherhood, its role in peace-building, and its application in contemporary Pakistan as a framework for fostering harmony and national cohesion. In an Islamic society founded on such brotherhood, values of love, selflessness, goodwill, sympathy, cooperation, and reconciliation flourish, while barriers of wealth, lineage, ethnicity, language, and region lose their divisive power. For Pakistan today, the concept of Islamic brotherhood is an indispensable force for peace, unity, and social stability. Yet, its realization faces internal challenges such as dishonesty, arrogance, and falsehood, as well as external obstacles like injustice, sectarianism, selfishness, and ethnic or linguistic prejudice. These impediments can only be overcome by reviving the Prophetic model of fraternity.
