Cultural Challenges in Baltistan and Their Impact on Islamic Identity (A Descriptive and Analytical Study)
Abstract
Baltistan, a region rich in cultural heritage and deeply rooted Islamic traditions, is currently facing significant challenges that threaten its Islamic identity. These challenges stem mainly from globalization, evolving ideologies, and rapid social changes, which have weakened the cultural and religious foundations, especially among the younger generations.
This study explores the major cultural challenges impacting Islamic identity in Baltistan, including the decline of the Balti language, the diminishing influence of educational and religious institutions, and the rise of external cultural influences that have reshaped local values and perspectives. Employing a descriptive and analytical approach, the research identifies key patterns of change and proposes practical solutions.
These solutions include integrating Islamic values with modern knowledge, training educators in contemporary pedagogical methods, leveraging digital media to raise cultural awareness, reviving Islamic arts in modern formats, and supporting youth-led cultural initiatives.
The study concludes that preserving the Islamic cultural identity in Baltistan requires coordinated efforts among educational, religious, and cultural institutions, guided by a strategic vision that fosters a cohesive society capable of maintaining its traditions while adapting to the demands of the modern world.
