Economic Challenges of Pakistani Youth and Prophetic Teachings on Trade: An Analytical Study
Abstract
Pakistani youth face a range of economic challenges, including unemployment, inflation, financial insecurity, limited entrepreneurial opportunities, and unethical commercial practices. These challenges hinder their economic empowerment and self-reliance. The commercial teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, as reflected in his Seerah, provide ethical and practical guidelines for addressing such challenges. This study analytically examines the economic difficulties faced by Pakistani youth and explores the principles, prospects, and contemporary applications of Prophetic teachings on trade. Drawing on Islamic sources and selected examples from Pakistani markets, the study investigates the relevance of principles such as honesty, trustworthiness, fairness, transparency, fulfillment of contractual obligations, and social responsibility to contemporary economic life. It also explores how these principles can promote ethical entrepreneurship, responsible business practices, and greater economic self-reliance among young people. The study argues that applying Prophetic commercial teachings can provide an important ethical framework for responding to youth economic challenges, although their practical effectiveness also depends on supportive economic policies, access to resources, and viable employment and business opportunities. It concludes that integrating Prophetic values into commercial education and entrepreneurial practices can contribute to youth empowerment and a more just and responsible economic environment in Pakistan.
