Abstract

Hafiz Alpuri is a prominent poet of the third period of Pashto literature whose poetic works demonstrate considerable experimentation in both semantic construction and artistic expression. Through these experiments, he enriches his poetry with semantic depth, linguistic innovation, and aesthetic refinement. Among the distinctive features of his poetic craftsmanship is *Tarkeeb Sazi* (compound formation), a significant linguistic and stylistic technique that contributes to the structural, semantic, and artistic richness of his poetic discourse. The present study investigates the nature and function of compound formation in Hafiz Alpuri’s poetry, with particular emphasis on its semantic implications and aesthetic significance. It examines how the poet employs various compositional strategies to enhance the expressive potential of language, create distinctive poetic effects, and enrich the thematic and artistic dimensions of his verse. By foregrounding this relatively specific yet significant aspect of his poetic technique, the study seeks to elucidate Hafiz Alpuri’s linguistic ingenuity and stylistic distinctiveness, thereby contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of his poetic artistry and his contribution to the development of Pashto literature.
