Abstract

The increasing incidence of divorce has emerged as one of the most significant challenges confronting Muslim families, undermining family stability and generating profound social, psychological, and economic consequences. While Islam recognizes divorce as a lawful solution in exceptional circumstances, the Prophetic Seerah places greater emphasis on preserving marital relationships through reconciliation, mutual respect, compassion, and the fulfillment of rights and responsibilities. This study examines the Prophetic strategy for preventing divorce and strengthening family stability by analyzing the Qur'ān, the Sunnah, and the practical family life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Employing a qualitative research design with analytical and descriptive methods, the study draws upon primary Islamic sources, including the Qur'ān, authentic Hadith literature, and classical juristic works, alongside contemporary research on marriage, divorce, and family studies. The findings demonstrate that the Prophetic approach to family life is founded upon carefully selecting a spouse, fostering religious and moral education, promoting effective communication, ensuring mutual respect, exercising patience and forgiveness, encouraging consultation (shūrā), facilitating reconciliation, safeguarding the rights of spouses, and treating divorce as a measure of last resort. The study further argues that these principles provide a comprehensive and sustainable framework for addressing contemporary marital challenges and reducing divorce rates. It concludes that integrating the Prophetic family strategy into family counseling services, educational programs, public policy, and community initiatives can significantly contribute to strengthening family cohesion and promoting long-term marital stability in contemporary Muslim societies.
